Cool highland escapes, vast 100-million year old tropical rainforest protected as national parks, rugged mountains, amd seemingly endless miles of pristine beaches are some of the wonderful natural features that make Pahang one of the most attractive states to visit in Malaysia.
Being the largest stste in Peninsular Malaysia, Pahang shares its borders with Kelantan, Terengganu, Selangor, Perak, Johor and Negeri Sembilan while the South China Sea washes its coastline. Its western part features rugged terrain as the Titiwangsa mountain range froms a natural divider between the peninsula's east and west regions.
This higher part of Pahang is where the country's major highland resorts are located. Cameron Highlands, Genting Highlands and Fraser's Hills are all in Pahang. Cameron Highland is known for its vast tea estates and temperate fruit and vegetables farms and is the most popular highland retreat in the country. Genting Highland draws a bigger crowd, mostly day-trippers, who visit the place to ejoy its theme parks or try their luck at its casino. Fraser's Hill on the other hand has a more tranquil setting and is popular among nature lovers or those seeking solitude.
The peninsula's highest peak, the 2187 metre-high Gunung Tahan is also in Pahang. This may not be a very high mountain but it can take seven days to reach the peak. The mountain also poses a major challange for participant in the ardous Taman Negara Eco Challange. Gunung Tahan is located in the popular Taman Negara.
With its oldest tropical rainforest in the world, Taman Negara is the biggest national park in the country and is located near the Jerantut area in Pahang. Tourists from all over the world come here to have a close view of its flora and fauna as well as partake in various jungle activities. Many budget accommodations as well as higher-end hotels are located at Kuala Tahan, the gateway to the park.
Fantastic seaside vacations also add to Pahang's allure. With 210km of shoreline, there are lovely beaches offering relaxationor seaside activities at places like Teluk Cempedak, Cherating Village, Cendor and Balok beaches.
The lovely island of Tioman Island is also part of Pahang. Famed for its gorgous natural features, this island is rated one of the most beautiful in the world and has great shorelines, crystalline waters and incredible coral gardens. Tioman is extremely popular among locals as well as foreign tourists and a range of accommodations are available to cater their needs.
