Bako is compact and easy to explore. Jungle trekking is the best way to fully absorb the richness of the park's treasure.  A system of 16 colour-coded walking trails offer full day jungle hikers or light hiking.

GUNUNG MULU NATIONAL PARK, MIRI

Nature left its best creation right here!  Covering an area of 544 sq km, the park encompasses the second highest mountain in Sarawak, Mount Mulu (2,376m).

MATANG WILDLIFE CENTRE
Opening Hours: 8.00am - 5.00pm
Covering 180ha of lowland forest, the wildlife centre allows Orang Utans and other local fauna to live in their natural surroundings.  Although the public can visit the centre and see the animals, it is not a zoo.  Its main function is to rehabilitate endangered species, such as Orang Utans that were confiscated from illegal possession.

Not far from Kuching, amidst a living museum known as the Sarawak Cultural Village, the world's ethnic musicians gather to celebrate a fusion of nature, culture and ethnic music.  Incorporating workshops, ethno-musical lectures, jam sessions and mesmerising evening performances, this magical event is set to thrill ethnic music fans.

Semenggoh Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre is undoubtedly one of the best attractions in the Kuching area.  It offers the opportunity of getting close to some mischievous, semi-wild Orang Utan.  Semenggoh became the first forest reserve in Sarawak in 1920.  It was turned into a wild life rehabilitation centre for monkeys, Orang Utans, honey bears and hornbills in 1975.

Indeed, one of Sarawak's best-kept secrets that offers lots of adventure to nature seekers.  Hike at the highlands and meet the hill tribes, Lun Bawang and Kelabit.  Visit their longhouse and experience the real life of the highlanders.

SATOK MARKET
Visitors should not miss Pasar Satok as the busy market offers views of diverse cultures, a cacophony of unfamiliar languages (especially for those familiar with standard Malay and English) and an assortment of products.

NIAH NATIONAL PARK, MIRI
The Niah National Park is world famous for the oldest human remains in Southeast Asia found in its Great Caves dating back some 40,000 years.  Archeologists also found fragments of pottery, stone tools, ornaments and a splendid set of wall paintings of red haematite depicting activities of men with hunting weapons and boats.  The works of the unknown artist is estimated to be 1,000 years old.

TAMU MUHIBBAH MARKET, MIRI
Tamu Muhibbah is the local market where fascinating products from the Sarawakian interior are sold and place for the unusual, be it a new variety of red bananas, mangoes resembling turnips, brown and white rice from upstream Bario and jungle remedies made from exotic plants and animal bi-products.  Visit this market and soak in the lively atmosphere of the natives.

DEER CAVE

The Deer Cave is named after a deer which is frequented the cave and which native hunters pursued.  It is large enough to hold London's St. Paul's Cathedral five times over and is believed to be the largest cave passage known to man.

JONG'S CROCODILE FARM, KUCHING

If you want to know more about the notorius Sarawak's Bujang Senang, visit Jong's Crocodile Farm.  The notoriety of the man eating crocodile called Bujang Senang dates back in 1993, when it went on its killing rampage around the Sri Aman area.  The farm is the resting-place for the infamous crocodile.

SARAWAK CULTURAL VILLAGE

Aptly named "A Living Museum", it depicts the heritage of the major racial groups in Sarawak and portrays the respective lifestyle amidst 14 acres of tropical greenary.

ANNA RAIS LONGHOUSE

The Anna Rais is an authentic Bidayuh Longhouse located in the hill slope region outside Kuching.  This village is accessible by road and it is the nearest native village from the city.  Take this longhouse tour and enjoy the beautyof the scenery around the longhouse.

BATANG RAJANG RIVER, SIBU
Along the river way, longhouses of the Ibans, half hidden by jungle, are a common sight.  Shooting the dangerous rapids is a daily affair for the express drivers and for tourists, it may be the experience of a lifetime.

GUNUNG GADING NATIONAL PARK

Gunung Gading National Park is a bautiful expanse of mountainous rainforest only two hours' drive from Kuching.  Located near Lundu, a pleasent little town, the park is a conservation zone for the spectacular Rafflesia, the largest flower in the world that can grow up to one meter in diameter.

BATANG LUPAR RIVER, SRI AMAN
A natural phenomenon - a tidal bore, locally known as "Benak", usually occurs at the Batang Lupar during the third and 18th day of the Chinese Lunar calendar month.  It occurs when the high tide rushes up to the Batang Lupar.
